Kindness Ambassadors

Why have Kindness Ambassadors?

At Grimoldby Primary School, everyone is kind and thoughtful but we want to make sure that we are spreading kindness even further and truly supporting our community and the environment. We want to empower children to create the kind of world they want to live in and help embed a culture of kindness.

How did we start?

In the Summer Term, each class nominated, then voted for two Kindness Ambassadors. They meet with Mrs Taylor every fortnight to create small 'missions' that they can carry out in their classrooms to spread kindness. This might be something as simple as saying "you're welcome" when someone has thanked them or making positive posters for their classrooms. The Kindness Ambassadors think about how they can be not only kind to others, but also be kind to the environment and importantly, be kind to themselves.

What have we done so far?

Initially, we started quite small by asking each class to think of three ways that each child could show kindness to themselves. We then shared this beautiful poem with each class to inspire them.

As a holiday mission, we asked children to be kind to the environment by doing things such as creating bug hotels. We have also spread kindness far and wide in our community. It was wonderful to give Paul Hugill MBE, from Daniel's Kitchen a selection of our Kindness Cards to give out with food parcels and meals for those in need.

In the Autumn Term, our oldest Kindness Ambassadors got to wear their Kindness badges with pride as we were part of a live Zoom meeting with other Kindness Schools. This was a fantastic opportunity to share our ideas and also listen to what other schools have planned to spread kindness in their communities. We have since held another Zoom meeting at the end of the Autumn term and gathered lots more ideas of how to spread kindness so watch this space! For Children in Need we came to school with crazy hair to support the charity and spread kindness even further.

What next?

Paul has asked us to make more cards to give out at Christmas, so we're already busy planning positive things to include. Following our second Zoom, the Kindness Ambassadors have suggested that they have lanyards for break times so they can keep their kindness stickers handy and will be making a kind Christmas decoration for their class tree. We will also have some more meetings in school to think of some more ways that we can show kindness to everyone. We have set an Advent mission too where children can do something kind everyday!
